Lesson 4: Chemistry Recap From Middle School
Reactions | Mixtures | Acids | Bases
Mixture - made of two or more substances - elements, compounds, or both - that are together in the same place but are not chemically combined.
Heterogeneous mixture - A mixture where you can see the different parts.
Homogeneous mixture - A mixture where the substances are so evenly mixed that you can’t see the different parts.
Solution - an example of a homogeneous mixture. It usually is made of a solid (Solute) and a liquid. (Solvent)
Acid - Solution or pure substance that is sour, pH<7, and gives off H+ Ions
Base - Solution or pure substance that is bitter, pH>7, and gives off OH- Ions
Energy - the ability to do work or cause change.
Temperature - a measure of the average energy of random motion of particles of matter.
Thermal Energy - the total energy of all of the particles in an object.
Endothermic Reaction - a reaction in which energy is taken in
Exothermic Reaction - a reaction in which energy is released
