LIGHT USING MAGNETISM

Task: How do you think a magnet can be used to light a light bulb?
WARM UP DISCUSSION
Here we discuss how magnets can be used to light light bulbs. The goal is to understand the lab connected to this lesson.
LAB: LIGHT USING MAGNETISM
Purpose: to demonstrate magnetism and electricity working together
Materials: LED, wire, cylinder object, magnet
Procedure:
Step 1: Coil the wire around the cylinder object
The object should be slightly bigger than the magnet. Leave a few inches of wire left on both ends
Step 2: Connect the wire and the LED
Wrap each end of the wire around each leg of the LED
Step 3: Test the light
Move the magnet quickly back and forth inside the coil. The LED should light up!
